The Department for Education’s proposed statutory guidance highlights the importance of schools holding spare AAIs as part of a robust allergy management policy. It outlines recommended quantities of AAIs based on school type and pupil age groups.

Recommended "Spare" AAI Quantities by School Type

*Secondary schools should consider having two pairs of "spare" devices, so that the "spare" ADs are not located more than five minutes aways from where they may be needed.

** Where special schools operate across more than one site, they should ensure there are spare ADs of the appropriate dosage on each site as required.

How should Auto-Adrenaline Injectors be stored?

Auto-Adrenaline Injectors should be stored in a clearly marked, accessible wall-mounted cabinet or box, ideally located in a central area known to staff. They must be kept at room temperature (15–25°C) and protected from direct sunlight, extreme heat, and freezing conditions to ensure effectiveness.

How often should Auto-Adrenaline Injectors be checked and inspected?

Injectors should be checked monthly as part of your first aid inspection routine. Ensure they are within their expiry date, stored correctly, and easily accessible. A visual check of the casing and packaging is also recommended. Schools may wish to record inspections on a log for compliance purposes.

How quickly will my order arrive? 

Standard products and pharmaceuticals are shipped the next working day (excluding Fridays). Please note that AAI devices are despatched separately in their own temperature-controlled packaging so will arrive separately from the rest of the kit.

Are Auto-Adrenaline Injectors prescription only?

Schools can obtain them without a named patient under the guidance of the Department of Health’s protocol for emergency use in children who are at risk of anaphylaxis but do not have their own device.
